Our Organic Second Flush Assam Tea is a very famous tea type in Britain, and is one of our highest quality Loose Leaf Black Tea types!
The Assam tea is named after the region of its production, Assam in India. This black tea is produced from the leaves of the plant called “camellia assamica”. This tea plant is a variation of the traditional camellia sinensis. However, it is a much taller tea tree the sinensis one.
There are two harvesting seasons for Assam Loose Leaf Tea: “first flush” and “second flush“. The plucking of first flush Assam tea leaves takes place in late March. As for the second flush harvesting season, it arrives later. Usually towards late April – early May.
The Second Flush Assam Tea has an even better reputation than its first flush peer. This is the case because its taste is slightly sweeter and more gentle, though more full-bodied too.
Another very interesting thing about Second Flush Assam Tea is that it is often referred to as the “tippy tea”, due to the gold tips in its leaves. This happens due to its longer exposure to the sun.
Our Organic Second Flush Assam Tea is a perfect example of very fine Assam Loose Leaf Tea. Additionally, as you can guess it from its name, it contains solely organic ingredients.
Indian Black Tea
India is the greatest tea production country in the world! About 900,000 tons of Indian black tea is exported to other countries yearly. However, tea cultivation is rather recent in India, as it did not exist there until the 19th century. The reason why the Indians started growing tea is because India was a British colony. In addition, Indian climate is very suitable for tea cultivation.
Therefore, similar to their Sri Lankan peers, the Indians wanted to boost their economy. And that is when tea production came in handy. Most tea that comes from India is black.
There are 3 main regions of tea production in India: Assam, Darjeeling and Nilgiri.
The tea coming from Nilgiri is not the best-known tea, because it is produced in relatively small quantities. However, given that it grows at very high altitudes, it has a very delicate taste. Therefore, many refined tea lovers hold this tea in great awe.
On the other hand, Assam tea and Darjeeling tea are, indeed, very famous. Bedford tea is proud to offer you an extensive collection of Indian Black tea, where you can find both these teas.
For instance, our collection of Assam Loose Leaf Tea contains two tea types, both of which contain solely organic ingredients. If you are fond of Indian Black Tea, and passionate about organic products, you might like to discover a very interesting tea that we offer in our Fine Darjeeling Tea collection.
