The Gunpowder, known as “the pearl tea” due to the shape of its pellets, is one of China’s oldest and most famous teas! Discover our Gunpowder green tea.
Gunpowder Green Tea is one of China’s oldest teas. This type of Loose Leaf Green Tea owes its name to a particular rolling technique that is used for its production. This technique dates back to the Tang Dynasty (7th – 9th century AD). The four most important steps in the production technique for Gunpowder Green Tea include withering, steaming, rolling and drying tea leaves.
The most interesting step in the production of Gunpowder Green Tea is the rolling technique. Its large greyish-green leaves are rolled into pellets resembling pearls. That is why it is commonly known as “the pearl tea” in China. This method of rolling usually applies to dry green tea leaves. However, sometimes this technique is used for Loose Oolong Tea too.
Our Gunpowder Green tea has a pale, delicate, slightly bitter and straw-coloured liquor and contains a lower caffeine level than any other green tea. Therefore, it is very relaxing and is ideal in the afternoon, or even in the evening. What is more, Gunpowder Green tea is extremely beneficial for your health, as it is particularly rich in antioxidants.
Loose Chinese Green Tea
It is widely known that China is a cradle of tea! As the legend has it, tea appeared in China in the year 2,737 BC. The Emperor Chen Nung decided to travel around China in search of healthy herbs. The Emperor would always boil water before drinking it, as he had a very healthy lifestyle.
So, one day he felt tired after a long walk, boiled some water for himself and decided to rest under a tree. A leaf from that tree fell into his glass of water. The Emperor drank it and was greatly impressed by this magnificent drink. That is how tea originated in China. Now Chinese tea, and especially Loose Chinese Green Tea is known all over the world!
The oldest type of Loose Chinese Green Tea is Gunpowder Green Tea. As mentioned earlier, this tea type has a particular rolling technique, that makes it so unique.
