Loose Leaf Pu Erh Tea

Often referred to as a post-fermented tea, Loose Leaf Pu Erh Tea is named after the town in which it is produced in China’s Yunnan province.

This tea is a post-fermented tea. What does it mean? Its production process is slightly different to that of other black tea types. There is one additional step in the preparation of Loose Leaf Pu Erh Tea. After the rolling of leaves this tea type undergoes an additional fermentation (oxidation). In this respect Pu Erh Tea is unique, because no other tea is produced in the same way.

There are two kinds of Pu Erh: sheng (raw) which is allowed to develop and age naturally, and shou (ripe) which undergoes an accelerated fermentation process. Our Loose Leaf Pu Erh tea is the ripe one. This tea type has a very original taste. It definitely has earthy notes, in addition to some woody flavour.

What is more, due to the post-fermentation, Loose Leaf Pu Erh Tea contains a lot of tannins, that eliminate bitterness from its taste. Therefore, even if you brew your Pu Erh Tea too strong, it won’t be bitter. 

Loose Leaf Pu Erh Tea has a very original taste. So it is at its best without sugar or milk.
